John Kasich

John Richard Kasich Jr., born on May 13, 1952, in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, is a prominent American politician and author who served as the sixty-ninth governor of Ohio from 2011 to 2019. A member of the Republican Party, Kasich's political career began in the Ohio Senate before he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he represented Ohio's twelfth congressional district for nine terms from 1983 to 2001. His significant contributions during this period included eighteen years on the House Armed Services Committee and six years as chair of the House Budget Committee, playing a crucial role in the passage of the welfare reform legislation in nineteen ninety-six and the Balanced Budget Act of nineteen ninety-seven.

After opting not to seek re-election in two thousand, Kasich turned his sights on the presidential race, although he withdrew before the Republican primaries. Following his congressional career, he hosted the show Heartland with John Kasich on Fox News from two thousand one to two thousand seven and served as managing director at Lehman Brothers in Columbus, Ohio. His political journey continued when he ran for governor in two thousand ten, successfully defeating the Democratic incumbent Ted Strickland and securing re-election in two thousand fourteen by a significant margin.

Kasich's tenure as governor was marked by his moderate stance within the Republican Party, which became increasingly evident during his second presidential campaign in two thousand sixteen. He finished fourth in the Republican primaries but won the primary in his home state of Ohio and placed second in New Hampshire. Notably, he declined to support Donald Trump as the Republican nominee and chose not to attend the Republican National Convention held in Ohio that year.

After leaving office in two thousand nineteen, Kasich became a CNN contributor and transitioned to an analyst role at NBC News in March two thousand twenty-three. Known for his outspoken criticism of Trump, he made headlines by endorsing Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden during the two thousand twenty Democratic National Convention, showcasing his willingness to cross party lines in pursuit of what he believes is best for the country.
