John of Patmos

John of Patmos, born in the year fifty, is renowned as the author of the Book of Revelation, a pivotal text in Christian scripture. His writings are steeped in vivid imagery and prophetic visions, which have captivated readers for centuries.

According to Revelation 1:9, John found himself on the island of Patmos, situated in the Aegean Sea, where he was exiled due to anti-Christian persecution under the Roman emperor Domitian. This period of isolation became a profound source of inspiration for his prophetic revelations.

Christian tradition has long held that John of Patmos is synonymous with John the Apostle, although scholarly debate has emerged since medieval times, suggesting a distinction between the two figures. Some ancient clerics, including Eusebius, acknowledged the existence of another John, known as John the Presbyter, who was also a companion of Jesus.
