He is best known for co-creating the iconic Mortal Kombat series alongside Ed Boon, a collaboration that began with a compelling game concept pitched by Tobias himself. His journey into the world of art began at a young age, fueled by a passion for comic books and further nurtured through weekend courses at the Art Institute of Chicago during his high school years.

Before his groundbreaking work at Midway Games, Tobias honed his skills as an artist for The Real Ghostbusters comic book series. Initially aspiring to be a comic book artist, he shifted his focus to video games, influenced by the evolving graphics technology and his mother's practical advice regarding the financial viability of an artist's career. His early work included contributions to the arcade classic Smash TV in nineteen ninety, setting the stage for the monumental success of Mortal Kombat in nineteen ninety-two.

Tobias played a pivotal role in shaping the Mortal Kombat universe, crafting its storyline, themes, and settings, including the infamous Outworld and Netherrealm. He was instrumental in designing the character roster for the series, which features beloved characters such as Kano, Kitana, Liu Kang, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, and Goro. Notably, the character Noob Saibot is a clever nod to the reversed surnames of Tobias and Boon, a detail that reflects their close partnership.
