John Zorn

John Zorn, born on September second, nineteen fifty-three, is a multifaceted American composer, conductor, producer, and instrumentalist known for his innovative approach to music. He is celebrated for his ability to transcend traditional genres, blending elements of jazz, rock, classical, and world music into a unique sound that defies categorization.

His groundbreaking work includes the critically acclaimed album The Big Gundown, released in nineteen eighty-six, where he re-arranged and orchestrated iconic themes by Ennio Morricone. This was followed by the albums Spillane in nineteen eighty-seven and Naked City in nineteen ninety, both of which further showcased his talent for merging diverse musical styles and challenging conventional formats.

In the early nineteen nineties, Zorn gained wider recognition through his alternative hardcore bands, Naked City and Painkiller. From nineteen ninety-four to two thousand eighteen, he composed and recorded over three hundred pieces for the Masada project, performed by various ensembles, solidifying his status as a prolific and influential figure in contemporary music.

Since nineteen ninety-five, Zorn has released an extensive catalog of recordings through his independent label, Tzadik Records.
