Jon Cornish

Jon Cornish, born on November fifth, nineteen eighty-four, is a distinguished former professional football running back who made a significant impact in the Canadian Football League (CFL) during his nine seasons with the Calgary Stampeders. After an impressive collegiate career at the University of Kansas, where he set the single-season rushing record with one thousand four hundred fifty-seven yards, Cornish was selected thirteenth overall in the two thousand six CFL draft.

During his time with the Stampeders, Cornish took over starting duties from the legendary Joffrey Reynolds midway through the two thousand eleven season. He showcased his exceptional talent by rushing for six hundred eleven yards in just seven games, earning accolades such as the Calgary Booster Club Male Athlete of the Year and a CFL West All-star selection. His remarkable performance continued as he led the league in rushing in two thousand twelve, breaking a long-standing record and securing the title of Most Outstanding Canadian.

In two thousand thirteen, Cornish reached new heights, rushing for one thousand eight hundred thirteen yards and winning both the Most Outstanding Canadian and Most Outstanding Player awards. His prowess on the field was further recognized when he received the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada's top athlete that same year. Even in two thousand fourteen, despite playing only nine games, he led the CFL in rushing once again, contributing to the Stampeders' Grey Cup Championship victory.

In recognition of his outstanding career, the Jon Cornish Trophy was established in two thousand eighteen to honor the top Canadian in NCAA Division One football, celebrating his legacy as a high school and professional player in Canada and a collegiate athlete in the NCAA.
