Jon Koncak

Jon Koncak, born on May 17, 1963, is a distinguished American former professional basketball player known for his impressive height of 7 feet (2.1 m). A product of Southern Methodist University (SMU), he was selected as the fifth overall pick in the 1985 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks, marking the beginning of a notable career in professional basketball.

Koncak dedicated ten seasons to the Atlanta Hawks from 1985 to 1995, primarily serving in a reserve role. He concluded his playing career with the Orlando Magic in 1996, leaving behind a legacy that includes career totals of three thousand five hundred twenty points and three thousand eight hundred fifty-six rebounds. His performance on the court earned him a six-year contract worth thirteen million dollars in 1989, a groundbreaking figure for a player in a reserve position.

Despite the financial success, Koncak was often humorously referred to as 'Jon Contract' due to the circumstances surrounding his contract negotiations, particularly when the Hawks matched an offer from the Detroit Pistons while he was a restricted free agent. His contributions to basketball were further recognized when SMU retired his jersey on February 23, 2008.

In addition to his professional achievements, Koncak is also an Eagle Scout and represented the United States by winning a gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics as part of the men's basketball team.
