Jonathan Greening, born on January 2, 1979, is an accomplished English professional football coach and former player, currently managing Scarborough Athletic in the National League North. His journey in football began in 1996 with York City, where he showcased his potential as a midfielder.
In 1998, Greening made a significant move to Manchester United, where he was part of the squad that triumphed in the 1998–99 UEFA Champions League, although he did not play in the final. Despite his early promise, he struggled to secure a regular spot in the first team and subsequently followed assistant manager Steve McClaren to Middlesbrough in 2001.
During his tenure at Middlesbrough, Greening received his first call-up to the England national team, marking a notable milestone in his career, even though he did not make an appearance. In 2004, he transferred to West Bromwich Albion for a fee of one million two hundred fifty thousand pounds, where he captained the team to a Championship title in 2008.
Greening's career continued to flourish as he signed with Fulham in 2009, contributing to the team's journey to the 2010 UEFA Europa League final. He later made a permanent move to Fulham the following summer and joined Nottingham Forest in 2011, where he enjoyed a three-year spell with the club.
