José Clemente Orozco

José Clemente Orozco, born on November twenty-third, eighteen eighty-three, was a prominent Mexican painter, draftsperson, and muralist. He played a pivotal role in the Mexican Mural Renaissance, alongside notable contemporaries such as Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros. Orozco's work is characterized by its deep exploration of human suffering, setting him apart as the most complex of the Mexican muralists.

Unlike Rivera, who often embraced realism, Orozco was captivated by the themes of machinery and technology, reflecting a unique perspective in his art. His style was heavily influenced by Symbolism, and he also engaged in genre painting and lithography, showcasing his versatility as an artist.

Throughout his career, Orozco created significant murals in various locations, including Mexico City, Orizaba, Claremont in California, New York City, Hanover in New Hampshire, Guadalajara in Jalisco, and Jiquilpan in Michoacán.
