José Félix Estigarribia

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of José Félix Estigarribia

José Félix Estigarribia, born on February twenty-first, eighteen eighty-eight, was a prominent Paraguayan military officer and politician who made significant contributions to his country's history. He is best known for his tenure as the thirty-fourth President of Paraguay, a position he held from nineteen thirty-nine until his untimely death in a plane crash on September seventh, nineteen forty.

Estigarribia's legacy is largely defined by his role as commander in chief of the Paraguayan Army during the Chaco War, where his strategic prowess led to an unexpected victory against Bolivia. His leadership during this conflict earned him recognition as a war hero, and he achieved the rank of lieutenant general, later being posthumously promoted to field marshal.

In the late nineteen thirties, Estigarribia was approached by both the Colorado Party and the Liberal Party to run for the presidency. Ultimately, he chose to align with the Liberals, who were the dominant political force at the time. His presidency was marked by the suspension of the constitution, which he replaced with a new one that granted him dictatorial powers.

However, Estigarribia's authoritarian rule was short-lived, as he and his wife tragically lost their lives in a plane crash just a year into his presidency. Following his death, his Minister of War, Higinio Morínigo, succeeded him and utilized Estigarribia's constitution to establish his own dictatorship, further shaping the political landscape of Paraguay.
