José Luis Chilavert

José Luis Chilavert, born on July twenty-seventh, nineteen sixty-five, is a celebrated Paraguayan former professional footballer renowned for his exceptional skills as a goalkeeper. His illustrious career spanned several clubs, including Sportivo Luqueño, Guaraní, San Lorenzo de Almagro, Real Zaragoza, Vélez Sarsfield, RC Strasbourg, and Peñarol, as well as the Paraguay national team.

Chilavert's achievements are remarkable, having secured twelve club titles, notably the 1994 Copa Libertadores and the 1994 Intercontinental Cup with Vélez Sarsfield. He is a three-time recipient of the IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper award, recognized for his agility, leadership, and strong personality. Beyond his goalkeeping prowess, he was also a free kick specialist, scoring a total of sixty-seven goals throughout his professional career, including eight in international matches.

His international career with Paraguay spanned from nineteen eighty-nine to two thousand three, during which he earned seventy-four caps and scored eight goals. Chilavert represented his country in two FIFA World Cup tournaments in nineteen ninety-eight and two thousand two, serving as captain on both occasions. Known as 'El Buldog' for his tenacity, he famously donned a cartoon bulldog on his goalkeeper jersey. In two thousand twenty-three, he ventured into politics, running for president of Paraguay under the Party of the Youth, although he garnered less than one percent of the popular vote.
