José María Balcázar

José María Balcázar, born on January seventeenth, nineteen forty-three, is a prominent Peruvian politician and lawyer who has been serving as the president of Peru since two thousand twenty-six. His political journey began when he was first elected to the Congress of Peru as a member of the Free Peru party in two thousand twenty-one. However, in two thousand twenty-two, he resigned from the party and played a pivotal role in founding Bicentennial Peru, a parliamentary bloc composed of dissident Free Peru congresspeople.

In two thousand twenty-four, Balcázar returned to the Free Peru caucus but chose to remain an independent following the dissolution of Bicentennial Peru. His political affiliations have been dynamic; he briefly joined Alfonso López Chau's party, Now Nation, but was expelled in early two thousand twenty-six. His political career has not been without controversy, facing criminal investigations related to allegations of illicit appropriation of funds and scrutiny over his connections to Patricia Benavides during the Peruvian Public Ministry controversy.

On February seventeenth, two thousand twenty-six, following the censure and removal of José Jerí from the presidency, Balcázar was elected as president of Congress. The very next day, he was voted in as the president of Peru, marking a significant milestone in his political career. Despite his achievements, Balcázar has encountered criticism, particularly regarding his views on child marriage, which have sparked public debate.
