Théodore's journey began in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), where he showcased his talent with the Hull Olympiques. In nineteen ninety-five, he not only won the President's Cup as QMJHL champions but also competed in the prestigious Memorial Cup. His exceptional performance earned him the Ford Cup as the top defensive player and the Guy Lafleur Trophy as playoff MVP, alongside being named a two-time QMJHL Second Team All-Star.

Drafted forty-fourth overall by the Canadiens in nineteen ninety-four, Théodore enjoyed an impressive eight-season tenure in Montreal. His remarkable skills on the ice culminated in winning both the Vezina and Hart trophies in two thousand two. Following his success in Montreal, he was traded to the Colorado Avalanche in two thousand six, where he played for two full seasons before moving on to the Washington Capitals.
