Josefa de Óbidos

Josefa de Óbidos, born around 1630, was a remarkable painter who made significant contributions to the Baroque art movement in Portugal. Originally named Josefa de Ayala Figueira, she was born in Spain but moved to Portugal at the tender age of four, where she would spend the rest of her life and create her artistic legacy.

Throughout her career, Josefa de Óbidos became known for her distinctive style, signing her works as "Josefa em Óbidos" or "Josefa de Ayalla." Her dedication to her craft resulted in approximately one hundred and fifty attributed works, showcasing her as one of the most prolific artists of her time in Portugal.
