Joseph Godbout

Joseph Godbout, born on May twelfth, eighteen fifty, was a prominent physician and political figure in Quebec. His early life began in St-Vital de Lambton, Beauce County, Canada East, where he was raised in a family that valued education. He pursued his studies at the Séminaire de Quebec and later at the Université Laval, laying the groundwork for his dual career in medicine and politics.

Godbout's political journey began when he represented Beauce in the House of Commons of Canada from eighteen eighty-seven to nineteen oh-one. Initially an independent Liberal, he later aligned with the Liberal party, showcasing his commitment to the values of his constituents. His political career continued to flourish as he was appointed to the Senate of Canada by Sir Wilfrid Laurier on April fourth, nineteen oh-one, where he served until his passing in nineteen twenty-three.

In addition to his political endeavors, Godbout was also the mayor of St-François in eighteen ninety-eight, demonstrating his dedication to local governance. His personal life saw him married twice; first to Rachel Audet in eighteen seventy-eight, and after her untimely death, to Hermine Fauteux, née St-Pierre. His legacy continued through his step-grandson, Gaspard Fauteux, who also made his mark in the House of Commons.
