Joseph John Tucker

Joseph John Tucker, born in Chatham, Kent, England, in the year eighteen hundred thirty-two, was a prominent Canadian politician and businessperson. He emigrated to Canada at a young age with his father, John Tucker, and quickly established himself in various professional roles.

For two decades, Tucker served as the chief surveyor for Lloyds in the East, a position that took him to Shanghai, where he made significant contributions to the field. His adventurous spirit was further exemplified when he commanded a transport vessel during the Crimean War, showcasing his leadership and commitment to service.

In addition to his military endeavors, Tucker held the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel with the 62nd Battalion, Saint John Fusiliers. His political career began to flourish when he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada, representing the New Brunswick electoral district of City and County of Saint John in the federal election of eighteen hundred ninety-six. As a member of the Liberal Party, he was re-elected in eighteen hundred ninety-nine, solidifying his influence in Canadian politics.
