Joseph Needham

Joseph Needham, born on December ninth, nineteen hundred, was a distinguished British biochemist, historian of science, and sinologist. He is best known for his extensive research and writing on the history of Chinese science and technology, which culminated in the ambitious multivolume work titled Science and Civilisation in China. This monumental project not only highlighted the rich scientific heritage of China but also sparked critical discussions around the Needham Question, which explores the reasons behind China's historical retreat from its once-dominant position in global science and technology.
