Josephine of Leuchtenberg

Josephine of Leuchtenberg, born Joséphine Maximilienne Eugénie Napoléone de Beauharnais on 14 March 1807, was a prominent figure in European royalty, serving as Queen of Sweden and Norway from 8 March 1844 until 8 July 1859. As the wife of King Oscar I, she played a significant role in the political landscape of her time, often acting as a trusted adviser to her husband.

Her royal lineage included titles such as Princess of Bologna from birth and Duchess of Galliera from 1813. Josephine was not only a queen but also an art collector, known for her refined taste and appreciation for the arts, which she actively promoted during her reign.

Josephine's influence extended beyond the arts; she was recognized for her political engagement and her efforts to introduce more liberal laws regarding religion. Her active participation in government affairs marked her as a politically astute figure, contributing to the modernization of Sweden and Norway during her husband's reign.
