Josh Stein

Josh Stein, born on September thirteenth, nineteen sixty-six, is an accomplished American lawyer and politician who has made significant strides in North Carolina's political landscape. Currently serving as the seventy-sixth governor of North Carolina since two thousand twenty-five, Stein has a rich history of public service, including his tenure as the fifty-first attorney general of the state from two thousand seventeen to two thousand twenty-five.

Originally from Washington, D.C., Stein relocated to North Carolina at a young age. He pursued higher education at Dartmouth College before earning his Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School. His political career began in earnest when he was elected to represent North Carolina's sixteenth Senate district in two thousand eight, a position he held until two thousand sixteen.

In the two thousand sixteen North Carolina Attorney General election, Stein secured the Democratic nomination and won against Republican nominee Buck Newton by a narrow margin of zero point fifty-four percent. He successfully defended his position in the two thousand twenty election, again defeating Republican challenger Jim O'Neill by just zero point twenty-six percent.

Opting not to pursue a third term as attorney general, Stein set his sights on the governorship, running in the two thousand twenty-four election. After clinching the Democratic nomination, he triumphed over Republican nominee Mark Robinson in the general election with a margin of fourteen point eighty-two percent. Notably, Stein is recognized as North Carolina's first Jewish governor.
