Joshua Mance, born on March 21, 1992, is a distinguished American sprinter specializing in the 400 meters. Currently attending Florida State University in Tallahassee, he made a significant transition after two years at the University of Southern California, where he initially committed in June 2010.
His athletic prowess was showcased at the 2012 United States Olympic Trials, where he finished fourth in the 400 meters, earning a coveted spot on the U.S. Olympic team as part of the 4 × 400 relay. Mance's Olympic journey was marked by resilience; during the semi-finals, he took the baton from Manteo Mitchell, who had completed half a lap with a broken leg. Mance's performance was crucial in helping the team qualify for the final.
At the Olympic final, Mance's second leg was instrumental in keeping the U.S. team competitive against a strong Bahamas team. Despite their efforts, the U.S. team ultimately secured a silver medal, with Mance handing off to Tony McQuay, who delivered an impressive split time of forty-three point four seconds.
Before his Olympic success, Mance had already made a name for himself in youth athletics. He won a gold medal in the 4 × 400 meters relay at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada, and earned a silver medal in the 400 meters at the 2009 World Youth Championships in Brixen, Italy, finishing just behind future champion Kirani James. His high school career at Don Antonio Lugo High School in Chino, California, was equally impressive, culminating in a championship win at the CIF California State Meet in 2010.
In 2013, Mance continued to build on his legacy as part of the U.S. team that clinched gold in the men's 4 x 400 m relay at the World Championships, further solidifying his status as a prominent figure in American athletics.
