Josipa Lisac, born on February fourteenth, nineteen fifty, is a celebrated Croatian and Yugoslav singer renowned for her remarkable versatility across various musical genres, including rock, pop, jazz, and ethnic music. With her distinctive contralto voice, she has earned a prominent place among the most significant female vocalists in the history of Yugoslav popular music.
Lisac began her professional journey in nineteen sixty-seven as the lead vocalist for the rock band O'Hara, quickly capturing the attention of both the Yugoslav audience and media. In nineteen sixty-eight, she transitioned to the band Zlatni Akordi, launching her solo career that same year. Her early solo performances at Yugoslav pop festivals garnered widespread acclaim, paving the way for her debut album, Dnevnik jedne ljubavi, released in nineteen seventy-three. This album is now regarded as one of the finest in the annals of Yugoslav popular music, featuring compositions by her husband, Karlo Metikoš, who played a crucial role in her artistic development.
Following her initial success, Lisac explored various musical styles, releasing a jazz rock album with B.P. Convention Big Band International and her third studio album, Made in U.S.A., which showcased works by notable American songwriters. Although her subsequent releases included several hit songs, they did not achieve the same level of commercial and critical acclaim as her debut. In the mid-eighties, she embraced a new phase of her career, performing at Yugoslav pop festivals in extravagant costumes, culminating in the release of her acclaimed album, Boginja, in nineteen eighty-seven.
After the passing of Metikoš in nineteen ninety-one, Lisac honored his memory by organizing tribute concerts, three of which were released as live albums. She continued to produce music, releasing three additional studio albums, with her latest, Živim po svom, debuting in two thousand nine. Throughout her illustrious career, Lisac has collaborated with numerous artists from the Croatian and Yugoslav music scenes and has received various accolades for her contributions to music.
