She represented the Vancouver Quadra riding in the House of Commons as a member of the Liberal Party from two thousand eight until two thousand twenty-five. Throughout her political career, she successfully secured re-election in the forty-first, forty-second, forty-third, and forty-fourth federal elections.

In her role as a cabinet minister, Murray has held several significant positions. She was appointed President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Digital Government on March eighteenth, two thousand nineteen, and continued to serve in this capacity after the two thousand nineteen election. In two thousand twenty-one, she transitioned to the role of Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, a position she maintained until July two thousand twenty-three.

Murray's political journey began in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, where she served as Minister of Water, Land, and Air Protection from two thousand one to two thousand four, followed by her role as Minister of Management Services until two thousand five.
