Judith Jasmin

Judith Jasmin, born on July tenth, nineteen sixteen, in Terrebonne, Quebec, was a pioneering journalist who made significant contributions to the media landscape of Canada. As the first woman from Quebec to become a grand reporter, she broke barriers and set a precedent for future generations of female journalists.

Her career commenced in the late nineteen forties at Radio-Canada's world service, where she met René Lévesque, a future premier of Quebec. Together, they co-hosted the radio program Carrefour, marking the beginning of her influential presence in Quebec journalism.

In nineteen fifty-three, Jasmin transitioned to Radio-Canada's television news service, where she gained recognition through programs like Reportages and Conférence de presse. Her commitment to social justice was evident as she took to the streets, amplifying the voices of the people and denouncing injustices.

Throughout her career, she traveled abroad, meeting key figures of her time and sharing her insights with the Quebec public. In nineteen sixty-six, she was appointed as Radio-Canada's United Nations correspondent, later serving as their Washington correspondent. Despite facing health challenges, including a cancer diagnosis, she returned to Montreal in nineteen seventy and continued to report on public affairs until her passing in nineteen seventy-two.
