Jules Bastien-Lepage

Jules Bastien-Lepage, born on November first, eighteen forty-eight, was a prominent French painter and printmaker whose work played a pivotal role in the evolution of Naturalism. This artistic style emerged from the Realist movement and significantly influenced the development of Impressionism. Émile Zola, a notable literary figure, characterized Bastien-Lepage's art as 'impressionism corrected, sweetened and adapted to the taste of the crowd.'
