Julio Velasco, born on February ninth, nineteen fifty-two, is a distinguished Argentine-Italian volleyball coach and former professional player. Currently, he serves as the head coach of the Italy women's national volleyball team, leading them to remarkable victories at the twenty twenty-four Paris Olympics and the twenty twenty-five World Championship.
Throughout his illustrious career, Velasco has been at the helm of several national teams, guiding them to podium finishes on numerous occasions. His impressive accolades include two Olympic medals—one gold and one silver—as well as three World Championships, making him the first and only coach to secure titles in both men's and women's volleyball. Additionally, he has triumphed in three European Championships, two Asian Championships, and earned three Mediterranean Games medals, comprising two golds and one silver, along with a gold medal at the Pan American Games.
In club competitions, Velasco's expertise has led to four Argentine championships, four Italian championships, three Italian Cups, one Italian Super Cup, and a CEV Cup Winners' Cup. His contributions to the sport were recognized in two thousand five when he was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame, solidifying his legacy in the volleyball community.
