June Whitfield

June Whitfield was a celebrated English actress, renowned for her versatile performances across radio, television, and film. Her career took off in 1953 when she landed a leading role in the BBC Light Programme's radio comedy, Take It from Here. This breakthrough opened the door to numerous television opportunities, including memorable collaborations with the iconic Tony Hancock.

In 1966, Whitfield starred in the sitcom Beggar My Neighbour, which enjoyed a successful run of three series. She became a familiar face in the Carry On film series, appearing in four installments: Carry On Nurse, Carry On Abroad, Carry On Girls, and Carry On Columbus, showcasing her comedic talent and charm.

Her partnership with Terry Scott began in 1968, leading to beloved roles as a married couple in the series Happy Ever After and Terry and June, which captivated audiences for over a decade. Whitfield's enduring legacy continued with her portrayal of Edina Monsoon's mother in the hit series Absolutely Fabulous from 1992 to 2016, along with roles in Last of the Summer Wine and The Green Green Grass.

In addition to her television work, Whitfield lent her voice to the character of Miss Marple in the radio adaptations of Agatha Christie's novels on BBC Radio 4 from 1993 to 2001, further solidifying her status as a versatile and talented actress.
