Justin Amash

Justin A. Amash, born on April 18, 1980, is a prominent American lawyer and politician known for his unique journey through the political landscape. He served as the U.S. representative for Michigan's 3rd congressional district from 2011 to 2021, making history as the second Palestinian American and Syrian American to hold a seat in Congress.

Initially a member of the Republican Party, Amash made headlines in 2019 when he declared himself an independent. His political evolution continued as he joined the Libertarian Party in 2020, ultimately becoming the only Libertarian to serve in Congress before leaving in January 2021. In a surprising turn, he returned to the Republican Party in 2024.

Amash gained national attention for his bold stance on significant issues, notably being the first Republican congressman to call for the impeachment of Donald Trump. This principled position remained consistent even after his departure from the party.

In addition to his congressional duties, Amash explored a presidential run in the 2020 election by forming an exploratory committee for the Libertarian Party nomination. However, he ultimately decided against running and did not seek reelection to Congress that same year.
