K. S. Chithra

K. S. Chithra, born on July 27, 1963, is an illustrious Indian playback singer and Carnatic musician whose career has spanned nearly five decades. With an impressive repertoire of over twenty-five thousand songs, she has lent her voice to various Indian languages including Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and many more, as well as foreign languages such as Malay, Latin, and Arabic.

Renowned for her exceptional vocal talent, Chithra has earned the title of the Golden Voice of India, a distinction awarded to her by the Royal Albert Hall in London in two thousand one. Her contributions to Indian cinema have also been recognized by The Times Group, which honored her as the Melody Queen of Indian Cinema in two thousand sixteen. Affectionately known by various titles across regions, she is celebrated as Piya Basanti in North India, Vanambadi in Kerala, and Chinna Kuyil in Tamil Nadu, among others.

Chithra's collaborations with legendary music composers such as A. R. Rahman and Ilaiyaraja, as well as her partnerships with iconic playback singers like K. J. Yesudas and S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, have further solidified her status in the music industry. She has received numerous accolades, including six National Film Awards, ten Filmfare Awards South, and forty-three State Government awards from eight states in India.
