Kahina

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Kahina

Kahina, a formidable monarch and military leader of the seventh century, is celebrated for her unyielding resistance against the Muslim conquest of the Maghreb. Born in the year six hundred sixty-eight, she emerged as a pivotal figure in the defense of North Africa, particularly in the region historically known as Numidia.

Uniting various Berber tribes under her command, Kahina led her people in numerous battles, most notably achieving a significant victory against the Umayyad forces at the Battle of Meskiana. Her leadership not only galvanized the indigenous population but also established her as the uncontested ruler of the entire Maghreb region.

Her reign, which lasted from six hundred ninety-eight to seven hundred three, saw the establishment of a sovereign Berber state stretching from the Aurès Mountains to the oasis of Ghadames. Despite her successes, Kahina's rule came to an end with her decisive defeat at the Battle of El Jem.

The circumstances surrounding her death remain shrouded in mystery, with accounts suggesting she passed away in modern-day Algeria towards the end of the seventh century or the early eighth century. Kahina's legacy endures, celebrated as one of the most iconic figures in the history of Berber resistance, with her story preserved through oral tradition and various written accounts.
