Kailash Satyarthi

Kailash Satyarthi, born on January 11, 1954, is a prominent Indian social reformer renowned for his relentless campaign against child labor and his advocacy for the universal right to education and life for children. As an electrical engineer and academic, he has dedicated his life to improving the conditions of children in India and beyond.

In 2014, Satyarthi was honored as a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize alongside Malala Yousafzai, recognizing their joint efforts in combating the suppression of children and promoting education rights. He is the visionary founder of several impactful organizations, including Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Global March Against Child Labour, and the Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation, all aimed at uplifting the rights and welfare of children.

Through his leadership at Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Satyarthi and his team have successfully liberated over one hundred thirty thousand children from the grips of child labor, slavery, and trafficking. His initiative, the Global March against Child Labour, which spanned eighty thousand kilometers across one hundred three countries, stands as one of the largest social movements advocating for exploited children, influencing the adoption of the ILO Convention 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour.

In addition to his grassroots efforts, Satyarthi has served on the boards of various international organizations, including the Center for Victims of Torture and the International Labour Rights Fund. His contributions have earned him recognition as one of Fortune magazine's 'World's Greatest Leaders' in two thousand fifteen and a spot in LinkedIn's Power Profiles List in two thousand seventeen and two thousand eighteen. His recent nationwide march, Bharat Yatra, covered nineteen thousand kilometers in thirty-five days, demanding legislative action against child rape and prostitution.
