Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Kalevi Holsti

Kalevi Holsti, a distinguished Finnish-Canadian political scientist, was born in Geneva in nineteen thirty-five. He and his elder brother, Ole, were raised in a diplomatic family, with their father, Rudolf, serving as Finland's ambassador to the League of Nations. The onset of World War II forced the Holsti family to relocate to the United States, where Rudolf took on a visiting professorship at Stanford University. Following Rudolf's passing, Kal and Ole were cared for by the families of their father's colleagues, as their mother, Liisa, battled tuberculosis.

Kal Holsti's academic journey began at Stanford University, where he enrolled as an undergraduate in nineteen fifty-two. He dedicated himself to his studies, ultimately earning a doctorate in nineteen sixty-one. His career took a significant turn when he immigrated to Canada, joining the faculty at the University of British Columbia in nineteen seventy. Holsti's contributions to political science were recognized through various roles, including co-editor of the Canadian Journal of Political Science from nineteen seventy-eight to nineteen eighty-two.

In nineteen eighty-three, Holsti was honored as a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, reflecting his esteemed position in the academic community. His leadership extended to the Canadian Political Science Association, where he served as president from nineteen eighty-four to nineteen eighty-five, and later to the International Studies Association, presiding from nineteen eighty-six to nineteen eighty-seven. His expertise culminated in the prestigious University Killam Professorship at UBC, which he held from nineteen ninety-seven to nineteen ninety-nine.
