Kalle Anttila

Kalle Anttila, born on August 30, 1887, in Finland, emerged as a prominent figure in the world of amateur wrestling. His early years were spent on a family farm in Canada, where he was instilled with a strong work ethic that would later serve him well in his athletic pursuits.

Anttila's wrestling career is marked by remarkable achievements, including winning Olympic gold medals in the freestyle lightweight category in 1920 and in the Greco-Roman featherweight division in 1924. His prowess on the mat was further demonstrated by securing world titles in the Greco-Roman featherweight class in both 1921 and 1922.

In addition to his international accolades, Anttila was a dominant force in Finnish wrestling, clinching national championships in Greco-Roman wrestling from 1918 to 1920 and again in 1929. He also excelled in freestyle wrestling, winning titles in 1924 and 1929.

After a storied career, Kalle Anttila passed away in 1949 and was laid to rest in Sudbury, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire future generations of wrestlers.
