Kalyan Singh

Kalyan Singh, born on January fifth, nineteen thirty-two, was a significant figure in Indian politics, known for his association with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and his tenure as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. His political journey began in the late sixties when he entered the Uttar Pradesh legislature as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Atrauli in nineteen sixty-seven. Over the years, he won nine elections from this constituency, representing various parties including the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the Janata Party, and the Rashtriya Kranti Party.

Singh's first term as Chief Minister commenced in nineteen ninety-one, a period marked by the controversial demolition of the Babri Masjid in December of that year, which led to his resignation. He returned to the Chief Minister's office for a second term in nineteen ninety-seven but was removed by his party in nineteen ninety-nine, subsequently leaving the BJP to form his own political party.

In two thousand four, Singh rejoined the BJP and was elected as a Member of Parliament from Bulandshahar. However, he left the party again in two thousand nine, successfully contesting the Indian general election as an independent candidate from Etah. His political career saw another shift in two thousand fourteen when he re-entered the BJP and was appointed Governor of Rajasthan, serving a five-year term.

Singh's later years in politics were marked by his return to active engagement in two thousand nineteen, although he faced legal challenges, including a trial for criminal conspiracy related to the Babri Masjid demolition. In two thousand twenty, he was acquitted by a special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation. Kalyan Singh passed away on August twenty-first, two thousand twenty-one, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and was posthumously honored with the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian award.
