Kamila Valieva, born on April twenty-six, two thousand six, is a prominent Russian figure skater who has made a significant impact in the world of competitive skating. She has achieved remarkable success, including being crowned the champion of the 2021 Rostelecom Cup and the 2021 Skate Canada. Additionally, she claimed the title of the 2020 Junior World champion and the 2019–20 Junior Grand Prix Final champion, showcasing her exceptional talent at a young age.
Despite her achievements, Valieva's career faced a major controversy during the 2022 Winter Olympics when a drug test sample she submitted in December tested positive for trimetazidine. This led to a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on January twenty-nine, twenty twenty-four, which resulted in a four-year ban imposed by the International Skating Union (ISU) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), backdated to December twenty-five, twenty twenty-one. Consequently, she was disqualified from all competitive results from that date, including her first-place finishes at the 2022 European Figure Skating Championships and the Olympic team event.
Notwithstanding the suspension and disqualification, Valieva remains a remarkable figure in the sport, holding the world record for the women's short program, free skating, and total scores. Throughout her career, she has set seven world records, becoming the first female skater to surpass the two hundred fifty, two hundred sixty, and two hundred seventy-point thresholds in total score, all within a single season. She also made history by being the first to break the one hundred seventy and one hundred eighty-point thresholds in free skate.
Valieva's technical prowess is evident as she is the second woman to successfully land the quadruple toe loop, following her training partner and teammate Alexandra Trusova. Furthermore, she is the fourth woman to execute a quadruple jump of any kind and the sixteenth woman to land a triple Axel. Notably, she is also the third woman to perform both a triple Axel and a quadruple jump in the same program, joining the ranks of Alysa Liu and her fellow teammate Sofia Akateva.
