Kanō Motonobu

Kanō Motonobu, born on August twenty-eighth, fourteen seventy-six, was a distinguished Japanese painter and calligrapher. He played a pivotal role in the evolution of the Kanō school of painting, which became a dominant force in Japanese art during the Edo period.

Through his extensive political connections and patronage, Motonobu was instrumental in organizing and influencing the Kanō school, ensuring its prominence and the training of numerous painters who would shape the artistic landscape of Japan.

His contributions to the art world were so significant that, following his death, he was honored with the title Kohōgen, a testament to his mastery and lasting impact on the field of painting.
