Kara Walker

Kara Walker, born on November twenty-sixth, nineteen sixty-nine, is a distinguished American contemporary artist whose multifaceted work spans painting, illustration, installation, and more. Renowned for her striking room-size tableaux of black cut-paper silhouettes, Walker's art delves into complex themes of race, gender, sexuality, violence, and identity, making her one of the most significant voices in contemporary art.

In nineteen ninety-seven, at the young age of twenty-eight, Walker was awarded the prestigious MacArthur fellowship, marking her as one of the youngest recipients of this honor. Since two thousand fifteen, Walker has held the esteemed position of Tepper Chair in Visual Arts at the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University.
