Karekin I

Karekin I, born on August 27, 1932, was a prominent figure in the Armenian Apostolic Church, serving as its Catholicos from 1994 until his passing in 1999. His leadership was marked by a deep commitment to the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Armenian people.

Before ascending to the role of Catholicos of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Karekin I held the position of Catholicos of Cilicia from 1983 to 1994, where he was known as Karekin II. His tenure in Cilicia was characterized by efforts to strengthen the church's presence and influence in the region.
