She first gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Amy Pond, a beloved companion to the Eleventh Doctor in the iconic science fiction series Doctor Who, which aired from two thousand ten to two thousand thirteen.

Her early film career included notable performances in the thriller Outcast in two thousand ten and the romantic comedy Not Another Happy Ending in two thousand thirteen. Gillan also showcased her theatrical talents on the British stage, appearing in John Osborne's play Inadmissible Evidence in two thousand eleven.

In two thousand thirteen, she made her Hollywood debut in the horror film Oculus, followed by her lead role in the ABC rom-com sitcom Selfie in two thousand fourteen.
