Kasha Nabagesera

Kasha Nabagesera, born in 1980, is a prominent Ugandan activist dedicated to advancing LGBTQ rights in her home country. As the founder and executive director of Freedom & Roam Uganda (FARUG), she has been at the forefront of advocating for the rights and dignity of LGBTQ individuals in Uganda, a nation known for its challenging environment regarding sexual orientation and gender identity.

Her tireless efforts in the realm of human rights have not gone unnoticed. In 2011, Kasha was honored with the Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders, a testament to her unwavering commitment to fighting for justice and equality. This recognition highlights her courage and resilience in the face of adversity.

In 2015, Kasha's impactful work was further acknowledged when she received the Right Livelihood Award, often referred to as the 'Alternative Nobel Prize.' This accolade celebrates those who have made significant contributions to social justice and human rights, reinforcing Kasha's role as a leading figure in the global fight for LGBTQ rights.
