Her journey to prominence began when she was elected as the ninth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada. This pivotal moment occurred during the seventy-fifth General Convention on June 18, two thousand six, where she was subsequently invested at the Washington National Cathedral on November 4, two thousand six. Jefferts Schori served in this esteemed position until November 1, two thousand fifteen, when Michael Bruce Curry succeeded her.

In July two thousand nine, she participated in her first General Convention as the Presiding Bishop, further solidifying her influence within the church. Following her tenure, she continued her service in various capacities, including her role as Assistant Bishop of Wyoming, which she began in July two thousand twenty-four, having previously served the Dioceses of San Diego and Los Angeles.
