Kathleen Hanna

Kathleen Hanna, born on November twelfth, nineteen sixty-eight, is a prominent American musician and a trailblazer of the feminist punk riot grrrl movement. Renowned for her powerful voice and unapologetic lyrics, she is best known as the lead singer of the influential punk band Bikini Kill, which played a pivotal role in shaping the feminist punk scene of the early nineties.

In addition to her work with Bikini Kill, Hanna fronts the electropunk band Le Tigre and has recorded music under the name Julie Ruin. Her artistic endeavors extend beyond music; she is also a dedicated zine writer, creating a platform for feminist discourse and expression through her various art pieces, photography, and journals.

In two thousand nine, Hanna made a significant contribution to the preservation of the riot grrrl movement by donating her zines and other materials to the Fales Library at New York University. Her life and career were further explored in the documentary film 'The Punk Singer,' directed by Sini Anderson, which was released in two thousand thirteen and highlighted her battle with Lyme disease.
