Kathy Griffin

Kathy Griffin, born on November 4, 1960, in Oak Park, Illinois, is a multifaceted American comedian and actress renowned for her sharp wit and engaging performances. After relocating to Los Angeles in 1978, she honed her craft at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and became a member of the improvisational comedy troupe The Groundlings. Griffin's career took off in the 1990s as she began performing stand-up comedy and made guest appearances on various television shows, eventually landing a supporting role on the NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan from 1996 to 2000.

Her breakthrough came with the Bravo reality series Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, which aired from 2005 to 2010. The show not only became a ratings success but also earned Griffin two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reality Program in 2007 and 2008. In addition to her television success, Griffin has released six comedy albums, all of which received Grammy Award nominations, with her debut album For Your Consideration making history as the first by a female comedian to top the Billboard Top Comedy Albums chart.

In 2009, she published her autobiography, Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin, further solidifying her status in the entertainment industry. Griffin's comedic prowess is highlighted by her numerous stand-up specials for HBO and Bravo, where she recorded sixteen specials, setting a Guinness World Record for the most aired television specials on any network. In 2011, she made history again by being the first comedian to have four specials televised in a single year.

Known for her controversial humor and bold statements about celebrities, religion, and sexuality, Griffin stirred significant media attention in 2017 when she posed with a mask resembling Donald Trump's severed head, leading to a U.S. Secret Service investigation. This incident later inspired her concert film A Hell of a Story, released in 2019, showcasing her resilience and commitment to her craft.
