Kay Granger

Kay Granger, born on January eighteenth, nineteen forty-three, is a distinguished American politician who made history as the first Republican woman elected to represent Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives. Serving Texas's twelfth congressional district from nineteen ninety-seven until twenty twenty-five, Granger's political career is marked by her leadership and commitment to public service.

Before her tenure in Congress, Granger was a dedicated teacher and a successful business executive. Her local government experience includes serving on the zoning commission of Fort Worth and as a member of the Fort Worth City Council. In nineteen ninety-one, she broke new ground by becoming the first female mayor of Fort Worth, a position she held until nineteen ninety-five.

Granger's influence extended to the national stage when she was appointed chair of the House Committee on Appropriations from twenty twenty-three to twenty twenty-four. Her leadership in this role underscored her significant contributions to fiscal policy and governance.

In twenty twenty-four, Granger chose not to seek reelection. Following a period of absence from the Capitol, it was confirmed in December twenty twenty-four that she had been residing in a senior living facility in Fort Worth since July of that year.
