Kay Hawtrey

Kay Hawtrey, a talented Canadian actress, was born on November 8, 1926. She received her education at Toronto's prestigious Trinity College, where her passion for the performing arts began to flourish. Hawtrey launched her career at Hart House Theatre, showcasing her skills before embarking on a year-long engagement at the Embassy Theatre in London.

Upon her return to Canada, she made a name for herself in television plays for the CBC. In 1956, she married English actor John Clark, and the couple relocated to New York City in 1959. They welcomed their son, Jonathan Hawtrey Clark, in 1963. However, the marriage ended in divorce in 1967, prompting Hawtrey to return to Toronto with her son, where she continued to thrive in film and television.

Hawtrey is perhaps best remembered for her role in the 1980 film Funeral Home, which solidified her status in the industry. Additionally, she graced the Broadway stage in Love and Libel in 1960, further demonstrating her versatility as an actress.

Kay Hawtrey passed away in Toronto on June 11, 2021, at the remarkable age of ninety-four, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances and contributions to the arts.
