Keith Geddes

Keith Geddes, born in nineteen forty-eight, is a distinguished mathematician and university educator, currently serving as a professor emeritus in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Saskatchewan in nineteen sixty-eight, followed by both his Master of Science and Doctorate in Computer Science from the University of Toronto. His academic journey has been marked by significant contributions to the field of computer science.

Geddes is perhaps best recognized for co-founding the Maple computer algebra system, which has gained widespread acclaim and is utilized in academic institutions around the globe. His expertise extends beyond teaching, as he also holds the position of Scientific Director at the Ontario Research Centre for Computer Algebra.

In addition to his academic roles, Geddes is an active member of several prestigious organizations, including the Association for Computing Machinery and both the American and Canadian Mathematical Societies. His work continues to influence the landscape of computer algebra and mathematics education.
