Ken Takakura

Ken Takakura, born Takeichi Oda on February 16, 1931, was a celebrated Japanese actor and singer whose career spanned over five decades and included appearances in more than two hundred films. Known affectionately as 'Ken-san' by his fans, he captivated audiences with his brooding style and stoic presence, which became hallmarks of his performances.

Throughout his illustrious career, Takakura garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious Japan Academy Prize for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, which he won four times, a record he shares with fellow actor Koji Yakusho. His contributions to the film industry were recognized with the Japanese Medal of Honor with purple ribbon in 1998, the Person of Cultural Merit award in 2006, and the Order of Culture in 2013.
