Kenneth Eriksson

Kenneth Eriksson, born on May 13, 1956, is a retired rally driver renowned for his remarkable career in the World Rally Championship. Over the years, he showcased his skills driving for several prestigious teams, including Subaru, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, and Škoda. Eriksson's journey in rallying also saw him compete in the Cross-Country World Cup and Dakar events during the early nineties, where he achieved a commendable fourth place overall in 1991.

In 1986, Eriksson clinched the Group A Championship, a notable achievement in a season marked by tragedy. His most significant performance in the World Rally Championship came in 1995 when he secured third place overall for Mitsubishi. That year, he controversially triumphed at the Swedish Rally, finishing ahead of his teammate Tommi Mäkinen and the eventual champion Colin McRae in Australia.

Transitioning to Subaru in 1996, Eriksson drove the Impreza WRC alongside McRae, excelling as a second points-scorer in loose-surface events. By the end of the 1997 season, he and co-driver Staffan Parmander had amassed six individual World Rally victories, including a memorable win in New Zealand, where he capitalized on an unexpected incident involving a sheep that affected the leading driver, Carlos Sainz.

After a fourth-place finish at the 1998 Swedish Rally, Eriksson parted ways with Subaru to explore opportunities with Hyundai, where he drove the Hyundai Coupe and later the Hyundai Accent WRC. His tenure with Hyundai saw him achieve a solitary points finish at the 2001 Rally Great Britain. Eriksson's final season in the World Rally Championship came in 2002 with Škoda, where he partnered with navigator Tina Thörner.

Since retiring from the World Rally scene, Eriksson has participated in the Race to the Sky hillclimb event in New Zealand, consistently finishing in second place from 2005 to 2007, showcasing his enduring passion for motorsport.
