Kenny G, born on June 5, 1956, in Seattle, Washington, is an iconic American smooth jazz saxophonist, composer, and record producer. His journey into music began at the tender age of ten, inspired by a captivating performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Throughout his formative years, he honed his craft by taking private saxophone lessons and playing in his high school jazz band, while also attending the University of Washington.
At seventeen, Kenny G embarked on his professional career with Barry White's The Love Unlimited Orchestra. He later played with the Seattle funk band Cold, Bold & Together before joining the Jeff Lorber Fusion in 1980. His solo career took flight after signing with Arista Records in 1982, leading to the release of his debut album, which featured members of the Jeff Lorber Fusion.
The release of his fourth solo album, Duotones, in 1986 marked a significant turning point in his career, propelling him to commercial success with the hit single “Songbird.” His 1992 album, Breathless, became the best-selling instrumental album in history, while his first holiday album, Miracles: The Holiday Album, achieved remarkable sales of over thirteen million copies.
