Kenny Monday

Kenny Monday, born on November twenty-fifth, nineteen sixty-one, is a distinguished American former folkstyle and freestyle wrestler, currently serving as the head coach of Morgan State University's wrestling team. His journey in wrestling began at the tender age of six, inspired by Olympic wrestler Wayne Wells. Growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Monday showcased his talent at Booker T. Washington High School, where he achieved an impressive record of one hundred forty wins, no losses, and one draw, securing four state titles and the Junior National championship in nineteen seventy-seven.

As a collegiate athlete at Oklahoma State University, Monday earned the title of NCAA champion in nineteen eighty-four at one hundred fifty pounds, contributing to the Cowboys' success with a record of one hundred twenty-one wins, twelve losses, and two draws. His accolades include being a three-time Olympian, winning the Olympic gold medal in nineteen eighty-eight with a thrilling overtime victory against Adlan Varaev of the Soviet Union. Additionally, he claimed silver in the nineteen ninety-two Olympics and finished sixth in the nineteen ninety-six Atlanta Summer Olympics.

Beyond his Olympic achievements, Monday's wrestling prowess was recognized with multiple championships, including the World Championship in nineteen eighty-nine and several USA Freestyle championships throughout the late eighties and nineties. His contributions to the sport were honored in two thousand one when he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member.

In August twenty-two, two thousand twenty-two, Monday was appointed as the head wrestling coach for the revived Morgan State University program, which had been dormant since nineteen ninety-seven.
