Kenta Kobayashi, born on March 12, 1981, is a prominent figure in the world of professional wrestling, known mononymously as Kenta. He has made a significant impact in the wrestling industry, particularly with Pro Wrestling Noah, where he has held the prestigious GHC Heavyweight Championship twice. His wrestling style is characterized by powerful kicks and strikes, a skill set honed during his earlier career as an amateur kickboxer.
Kobayashi began his journey in All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) before transitioning to Pro Wrestling Noah. His involvement with the Global Professional Wrestling Alliance (GPWA) allowed him to showcase his talents internationally, including extensive work with the American promotion Ring of Honor (ROH). Throughout his career in Noah, he has achieved remarkable success, capturing the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship three times and the GHC Tag Team Championship once, among other accolades.
In addition to his accomplishments in Japan, Kenta is well-known for his tenure in WWE, where he competed under the name Hideo Itami. His time in WWE included stints in the developmental territory NXT and the cruiserweight-exclusive brand 205 Live. After departing from WWE in two thousand nineteen, he made a notable return to New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), where he participated in the G1 Climax and aligned with Katsuyori Shibata before joining the Bullet Club. His time in NJPW saw him capture multiple championships, including the Strong Openweight Championship and the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.
In January two thousand twenty-five, Kenta quietly left NJPW and returned to Pro Wrestling Noah, continuing to build on his legacy in the wrestling world. His innovative finishing moves, such as the Go 2 Sleep and Busaiku Knee kick, have influenced many wrestlers, including CM Punk and Bryan Danielson, solidifying his status as a pioneer in the sport.
