Kerrin Lee-Gartner

Kerrin Lee-Gartner, born on September twenty-first, nineteen sixty-six, in Trail, British Columbia, is a celebrated former World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medallist from Canada. Growing up in Rossland, she began her skiing journey at Red Mountain, quickly rising through the ranks to join the Canadian Women's Ski Team in nineteen eighty-two. Despite facing numerous challenges, including multiple knee surgeries, her determination and talent shone through.

Lee-Gartner achieved her first World Cup podium in December nineteen ninety, setting the stage for a remarkable performance in the nineteen ninety-two Winter Olympics held in Albertville, France. Competing on the challenging Roc de Fer course at Méribel, she clinched the gold medal in the downhill event, marking a historic moment as the only Canadian to win an Olympic downhill event as of two thousand eighteen. She also secured a sixth-place finish in the super-G and continued to excel with two additional podiums in North America that season.

The following season, nineteen ninety-three, proved to be her most successful on the World Cup circuit, where she notched two podium finishes and twelve top-ten placements, ultimately finishing third in the downhill standings and ninth overall. At the World Championships in Japan, she showcased her skills with a fourth-place finish in the super-G and ninth in the downhill.

As she prepared for the nineteen ninety-four Winter Olympics in Norway, Lee-Gartner faced emotional challenges following the tragic death of her friend Ulrike Maier. Despite this, she competed valiantly, finishing eighth in the super-G and nineteenth in the downhill before announcing her retirement from international competition at the end of the nineteen ninety-four World Cup season.

Today, Kerrin Lee-Gartner has transitioned into a successful career as a television broadcaster with CBC Sports in Canada and has contributed her expertise to the BBC during the two thousand ten Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
